Description:
Entrants will be asked to design a contemporary kitchen/living area within the traditional, historic architecture of Boston and its suburbs. Successful designs will incorporate the philosophy represented in the work of Italian architect Antonio Citterio, particularly as expressed in his kitchen designs for Arclinea and his furniture designs for B&B Italia.
All entries will be judged by a panel of area architects and
designers. Prizes of $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000 will be will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries.
Antonio Citterio was born in Meda, Italy, in 1950. He studied architecture at Polytechnic University in Milan, and opened his own studio in 1972. Today, he designs for many of the world’s most respected manufacturers of contemporary home furnishings, including B&B Italia, and he is the exclusive designer for the Italian kitchen design firm Arclinea. Citterio has also designed numerous buildings, including government offices, corporate headquarters, luxury hotels, industrial plants, and private residences. Winner of the Compasso d’Oro in 1987 and 1995, Citterio’s work is featured in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and at the Centre di Pompidou in Paris.
